YOUTHFUL INTEREST
I've enjoyed art and painting every since I was a kid. Like most kids, when their parents encourage them in a specific area they usually continue to perform that activity. My parents were and continue to be my biggest fans. I also, remember a 4th grade history report which required a few pictures. I drew a knight and several weapons; including a cross-bow. My report and pictures were picked to go into the hallway display cabinet. I was very proud of that project. In the 7th grade after reading a book, we had to make posters and hang them on the walls of our classroom. The next day, I discovered my poster had been stolen. At first, I was a little upset, but then it occured to me that if somebody wanted it that bad it must have been pretty good. In high school I was a member of the Art Club. Our club's advisor created an opportunity for us to design and produce a commissioned mural for the lunch room at a local bakery – Dick Brothers. I was quite pleased when my design was chosen. This was my first mural and the Art Club's biggest fund raiser of the year.
EDUCATION
After High School, I continued my education in fine art at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, WI, and then switched over to Plymouth State University, Plymouth, NH, where I earned a BS degree with interdisciplinary training in graphic design and business marketing. While in school, I was able to cover most of my expenses by making signs and murals. I've spent the last 16 years in the graphic design field and have continued to paint murals on the side for friends and family. While at the same time enjoying fine art landscape painting as a hobby. |

NEW DIRECTION
Recently, it occured to me that adjusting my work efforts to include more painting time would be invigorating. After serious consideration and dialog with my wife, we decided that I should pursue more painting opportunities. Although my graphic design work is rewarding and continues to hold my interest, I'm a painter-at-heart and as a result Martin Mural Works was created. I enjoy having a brush in my hand as much as a mouse.
