FAUX FINISHES
GLAZING
COLOR WASHING
A flexible technique which can be varied in appearance by the way in which the paint is wiped off or on with various materials to create a soft, hazy blend of color. A natural sponge is a popular tool used to create the subtle illusion of texture or clouds. This is a simple and quick technique that adds a lot of interest to walls.
SPONGING OFF
A faux glazing color combination is simply a base color painted onto your surface with glaze color(s) applied over it. A water-dampened sea sponge is dabbed into the wet glaze color. This techniques gives you a soft patterned appearance.
DRAGGING OR COMBING*
Dragging: Is a technique of pulling a long-haired dry brush through wet paint or glaze to produce a series of fine lines that look like textured fabric.
Comping: Is a similar technique that uses a "comb" to lift off areas of glaze from the base color. Several colors can be used.

RAGGING ON
Ragging creates a lacy, elegant look by using a water-dampened cloth rag to either apply color to, or remove it from, the base color. Ragging is also referred to as Rubbing.

TEXTURE
VENETIAN PLASTER
Venetian Plaster and color combinations are mixed and applied in thin coats with a trowel. After drying the plaster can be sanded to modify the look and burnishing creates a polished surface.
BELLAIO
A glaze color is applied over an existing dry base color. A trowel is used on the top coat to move the glaze in different direction allowing the base coat to show through in some areas.
FROTTAGE
Frottage simulate the warm, aged look of antique leather. An existing base color or new color is painted onto the wall and a glaze color is applied over it. Plastic sheets are laid over the wet glaze and then peeled off the walls leaving behind a textured finish.
